JCHAI’s social events are organized by both JCHAI staff and residents, and offer proof positive that having a developmental disability doesn’t get in the way of enjoying life to the fullest.
We hold formal social events, like JCHAI’s spring Gala. Last year’s Gala, The Masters of Independence, was held on April 29 at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where Cezanne & Beyond was the featured exhibit. Honored that evening was The Hon. Dennis O’Brien, a tireless advocate for Pennsylvania citizens with developmental disabilities.
Event attendees were offered a private tour of the Cezanne & Beyond exhibit with personal docents leading small groups. During the program that followed exhibit tours and dinner, JCHAI hosted a live auction, as well as a presentation of awards to Dennis O’Brien, and to David Rosenberg from Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia as a Chaver of JCHAI. Finally, the Louis J. Carter Award was presented to Paula Ostroff-Sherman for her work on the gala invitations and design. Overall, the event raised more than $200,000 for JCHAI’s work, allowing us to maintain our current services and forge ahead with our mission to open doors to even greater opportunities.
