Testimonial stories and quotes from our residents show the kind of support offered by JCHAI to disabled people.  JCHAI’s residents love to talk about what our program means to them. It means they get to live like other contributing members of the community.

“It’s called Judith Creed Homes for Adult Independence, meaning they teach you how to be independent.”
Eric

"I think it's great living here.  I get to do things on my own."

Doug

“Basically, [at home] I was just babied.”
Debbie

“You have to work very hard – doing the mopping, sweeping, dusting, you have to do everything.”
Jonah

“I’m always on the go – I’m never home!”

Jenny

“I like being part of things. I like being part of JCHAI!”
Arthur

At our JCHAI Gala fundraiser in November of 2007, one of our residents spoke about how important JCHAI is to her:

"I will never forget the first time I walked into MY Apartment. Just simply being able to say “This is My Kitchen or My Bedroom was so exciting. The apartment was beautifully furnished in my favorite shades of purple and the kitchen was fully stocked. I felt so proud to call this my OWN...

"...We look out for each other. One night I had to go downstairs for a firedrill. Upon arriving in the lobby from climbing down seven flights of stairs I met up with the JCHAI residents. As I approached them we heard someone from the building complain about how slowly I walked. My friend Deb quickly came to my rescue and turned around telling him, “Hey, Watch it! She’s my friend.”
